Bookseller John Halpen Charged With Libel Printing
On Tuesday February 7 John Halpen, bookseller, was brought to the bar under an order from yesterday charged with printing and publishing a libel on the Right Honorable Earl of Clare. The paper allegedly claimed to be a speech of Lord Aldborough delivered in the House of Peers, and Halpen admitted printing it, saying he received the paper from an unnamed source.
