Election of Common Councilmen in Candlewick Ward
In Candlewick Ward Alderman Watanut held the Wardmate as older councilmen were re elected. Cheap Ward re elected all the same common councilmen. Walbroke Ward all 13 councilmen again elected. Robbery on Wimbledon Common and Botany Bay escape bid
On Tuesday near four o clock in Surrey, William Haypen, banker of Guildford, was robbed by three footpads who halted him from under the gibbet on Wimbledon Common. They took a watch, money, and a pocket book containing bank notes totaling 5800. The following day at Newgate Major Semple, awaiting Botany Bay transport, feigned searching for necessaries then stabbed himself and now lies gravely ill, refusing sustenance and threatening death.
