Court of King's Bench Promissory Note Case
This 18th century note case follows a drawer Moore who handed a promissory note to Barrington the tailor for discounting but Barrington assigned it to Yates the linen-draper who was insolvent and passed it to Reynolds the plaintiff for a debt payment. Reynolds claimed good title on the note after it passed through Barrington Yates and was indorsed to him, despite questions about value. Lord Kenyon ruled the holder did not need to demand when due and that the note remained legally negotiable, awarding Reynolds based on value received and transfer chain.
