A 18th century letters series advertises a moral and instructive work for husbands and wives. It promises guidance on disposition, temper, conversation, family management, and decorum, authored under the guise of improving married life. Printed by W Hodges and sold at 116 Pall Mall, with a publisher pledging pure motives.
A detailed notice describes a freehold dwelling with two parlours hall four bedrooms upstairs and garrets over a kitchen dairy and cellars. Positioned within a mile of Warforth market town and ten miles west of Haverfordwest on the Milford to London turnpike. Enquiries directed to Mr John Bateman, attorney at Law, Haverfordwest.
Copy of a letter from Admiral King to Evan Nepean detailing Captain Butterfield’s capture of a large French Republican armed ship from Mauritius bound to Bordeaux with 2 seamen and 246 troops, and the pursuit of an American prize named Neptune. The report praises Butterfield’s conduct and lists officers and crew commended for their actions during the engagement off Cork Harbour.
Persistent rumor from the West End and city area reports a ferocious engagement between English and French fleets in the Mediterranean. Paris papers dated the 26th and 26th allegedly carried word of the event.
Reports claim Nelson’s fleet fought Buonaparte near Alexandria from June 28 to July 2. eight French ships captured, Culloden blown up, Nelson mortally wounded, though reports are disputed as Continental fabrications. The Paris papers report two Spanish corvettes on a discovery voyage from Cadiz to the coast of America touching La Plata and Friendly Isles renamed Badates. They note Massena’s likely command of the Sambre and Meuse army and Madame D’Omazans pension dispute. The Executive Directory orders Coote and England freed to return to England for three months to recover health, with a later return to France as prisoners. not a provisional exchange.
The July 25 letter reports British and French naval movements near Alexandria. An Imperial ship arriving July 16 notes an English squadron sighted near Candia while French forces reportedly failed to land by July 8. Winds and routes from Gibraltar to Egypt suggest both fleets remained distant, keeping invasion claims uncertain.

An extract from a New York letter dated July 20 describes the Elza under Captain Huwten sailing from Boston to Cape Nicola Mole. A French 18-gun brig tried to seize papers. a battle ensued in which Captain Hunter was wounded, French officers were killed, and much of the crew massacred or wounded. The ship Dorothea Elizabeth was captured en route from Hambro to St Thomas and Havana, carried to Mole St Nicolas and condemned. The Adventure and the Banettay Scott, sailing Liverpool to Africa, are missing and feared to have foundered.
In the House of Lords the committee considered a bill to compel rebels to surrender and face trials. Lords opposition members denounced French actions and praised yeomanry. In the Commons Hon F Hetchinson condemned a prisoner's publication as a libel on Parliament. State Prisoners deny implicating statements while in separate cells.
