From Belfast on August 11 a garrison witnessed an uprising as soldiers from Aberdeen Fencibles and Royal Artillery carried out disciplinary actions after a man accused of taking a United Trifflmen oath. A court martial punished four privates with restrained sentences while muskets and blades were cataloged for storage at Artillery Barracks. The crowd gathered for the spectacle as troops moved from the guard house to Ship Quay amid the unrest.
In a Norfolk suit, Serjeant LeBranc for the plaintiff alleged a tannery owner’s wife, Mrs Taylor, had a long affair with Johnson. Evidence showed Johnson’s visits began in 1796, leading to a separation. The jury found for the plaintiff, awarding damages of 10 pounds.
