French Plan for Egypt Colony and Trade Hub Draws Debate
The debate centers on a French expedition to Egypt as a path to control a Mediterranean Red Sea canal and to found a colony. Proponents argue it would enrich the Republic, unite East and West trade, and bolster Adriatic and Mediterranean ports. Critics warn of envy and risk, but the plan emphasizes liberty and reciprocal comfort rather than tyranny.

Royal Academy Critics Highlight Windsor Prophecy Portraits
The President West showcases biblical light and shade in a Prophecy of Zacharias piece for Windsor Chapel. Beechey’s royal review scene with the Prince of Wales and York figures captivates, though the Duke's likeness is imperfect. Lawrence supports celebrity status, while Cogley and McQuire display varied mastery in historical pieces. Sir Francis Bourgeois offers two excellent works, including The Friar expiring before the Cross.
