Fire at Reckoning Horse in Lowther Street destroys offices
In Whith Haven on Tuesday morning a fire broke out in an old building on Lowther Street known as the Reckoning Horse. Fire engines fought the blaze as water ran short due to frost. the roof collapsed about 25 minutes after starting. The interior, including papers and many soakings, was ruined while no one was hurt. The blaze appeared to be caused by a beam behind a grate and spread rapidly, but the structure and adjacent holdings suffered limited damage overall.
