The House of Commons opened with Robert Anstruther taking the oaths for Anstruther Burgh. Moreton inclosure bill passed third reading. Leeds Coals bill petition referred to committee. Halifax Small Debts and Brewton Roads bills engrossing ordered. Bicester Inclosure and Blything Poor bills read first time. Dunn Navigation petition reported and bill ordered. Farnham Hop Planters petition reported and tabled. Speaker counted 28 members present. House adjourned.
A eighteenth century session notes the petition on April 6 and bills including Queenborough Inclosure Expiring Laws and Lean Bills. Mr Whitbread moves to present a royal address demanding a February proclamation to recall mariners serving foreign rulers. The House moves to form a committee to consider measures against traitorous correspondence with France. Mr Fox questions procedural implications.
In the Irish House of Lords on March 30 the Lords committed reported read a third time and passed an act providing relief to persons operating the baking trade in Dublin city.
The Republican Privateer from Dunkirk with six guns and 37 men was captured by the Royal Charlotte Excise Cutter and carried to Leith harbour after being taken between Dunbar and the Isle of May. She was pierced for 12 guns, carried 6, with 30 seamen and five officers. Also arriving at Portsmouth was the Danish brig Pelican from Barcelona bound for Stettin, recently captured by La Beliene and then recaptured by the Circe, off Breft, amid two French frigates.
Plymouth April 3 letters report a large body of people defeating National troops then marching to Angers to free 200 comrades imprisoned there. The Porcupine arrived with 28 guns and 300 sailors for the fleet while the Druid of 32 guns is to be victualed for foreign service.
Dover reports two packet boats carrying three Flanders and two French Mails sailed for the Downs last night. The Thalia frigate escorted them to Ostend by order of Admiral Macsnipe. Two other French Mails and a Flanders ship went by land to Deal and were transferred to the packets upon arrival.
Three Admiralty Messengers arrived within thirty six hours. Reports say Admiral Gext leads eleven outward bound East Indiamen guarded by a fleet not to depart until reinforcements from Britannia arrive. Prince William Henry and Lord Thurlow joined the convoy at St Helens. Suffolk and Flora also arrived with a convoy, the Flora capturing a French privateer, Republique Francoise, and the Bonetta bringing in an English Straitsman captured from the Downs.
