Mission among Indians Establishes School and Faith
In 1734 a minister joins a conference to guide Native Americans in gospel truths. A belt of wompum seals the agreement as Mr. Sergeant accepts the mission. They travel from Westfield to Housatonic, facing rough wilderness roads, baptize Ebenezer, and establish a winter school and church at Skatekook and Whahktukook with huts for families. They plan to live there seasonally and hunt for subsistence.
