p. T. A.Workers Enjoy Program On WednesdayThe Parent-Teacher association of the W. R, Mitchell school, West Monroe, held its monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon with the president,Mrs. Peter Brooks, presiding. An interesting program, under the direction of Mrs. Mabel Spencer, was presented os follows:Reading, Margaret Ola Eaves.Mrs. Spencer led a discussion on the “School Pattern, the association's study subject for November. She slres.sGd the importance of the school in preparing the child for citizenship, developing his natural abilitic.s, encouraging imagination and leadership and equipping for leisure time.Mrs. E. E. Johnson gave an instructive address on “The School of Tomorrow and the School of Today.'* She said in part:“The school of tomorrow will define education as gxiided growth and will start much earlier in the life of the child. The school of tomorrow will demand teachers of greater skill and broader education than the school of today. There will be a distinction of the art of teaching anduncrcly routine aspects of school management.“Our teachers are working harder to make our schools of tomorrow broader and easier objectives of education, There will be a well-balanced program of mental and physical work. The task of teaching will not be complete until all children ard fitted successfully into the activities of citizenship and vocation. Children will be encouraged to bring into the cla.ss-room tlieir interests and problems ofnature in city, industrial life and human relations.“The children will derive what they need, protection of the community from harmful influences and unfair temptations. Cooperation of teachers and parents will improve the school life and outside life of oixr childi*en.Mrs. Brooks read a message from the state president, Mrs. Lawrence Mailhes, which appeared in a recent issue of the Parent-Teacher magazine.The members discussed the cooperative campaign now under w^ay by the Tw’in City council, the welfare associations and the churches to collect toys to be di.stributed to the children of the poor this Christmas.Room mothers for the ensuing school year were appointed as follows: First gi’ado, Mrj. Ed Johnson; second gi ade, Mrs. Boise; third grade, Mrs. B. A. McKenzie; and fourth grade, Mrs. Vanderworker.Tlie members discussed a campaign to increase the membership of the association.The banner for having the largest number of moUiers present was awarded to the fir.st grade.Miss Bertha Marie Masur atdrved home today from Tuscaloosa, Ala., where she has been delightfully entertained as the guest of friend for the past several weeks.Meeting of the Y, W.
