Friday, November 9,1973Viva film%to premiere“A Man Called She” which was filmed entirely on location in Arizona, and produced in Scottsdale by Viva Productions will premiere on Thursday. Producer was Vern Piehl, Director, Thomas Quillen, and the musical score was done by Vic Caesar.The Arizona premiere of this “All-Arizona” film, has been set at the University Theatre in Tempe and the Silver Dollar Drive-In.“A Man Called She” takes place in May of 1873 when a troup of cavalry men ambushed and massacred a sleeping camp of Mesealero men, women and children — breaking the* treaty between the United States Government and the territory of Arizona. Among the few survivors of this devastating massacre were the leader of the tribe, and his woman. Ironically, he and his people had believed in and were respecting the treatyand that once peaceful man,who had opposed Wiling, now became a feared warrior throughout the territory. He became known to the white man as She Cleet’ So, the man who wore the yellow shirt.This is the story of one Oman’s struggle, not only to avenge the destruction of his village and the slaughter of hispeople, but to retain his identity as a man, and his heritage as an Indian.Starring in the production as “She” is Ray Danton seen recently in segments of “TheFBI” and “Hawaii Five-O”. Phoenician Diane Taylor co-stars as the woman of “She”and Troy Nabors, known throughout the nation's rodeo circuits, also appears.
