SpotlightBy Shannon JewellBlossom announces highlightsLorain’s WLRO Radio may be part of a national satellite transmission sequence if approval is given to an application filed March 3 with the Federal Communications Commission by the Mutual Broadcasting System.Mutual, of which WLRO is an affiliate, has asked permission to construct a continental system of “earth stations” to enable the affiliates to receive network programs via satellite.The plan includes a 10-foot receiving terminal at WLRO, according to Alynne Harrison, station general manager. “We are extremely gratified that WLRO was one of the radio stations in the nation to be chosen by Mutual for this years-ahead service.”Only 500 of the more than 780 Mutual affiliates were picked as locations for the towers. It is expected the satellite program service will be in effect on WLRO in early fall, Ms. Harrison said.* * *The spectrum of today’s music and entertaiment worlds” is promised for Blossom Music Center's 1978 season of special attractions.The more than 35 concerts are to include the reunion of Peter, Paul and Mary, legendary groap in American folk music. The Blossom concert (no date has been announced) will mark their first performance together in several years.Other performers scheduled include Kris Kristoffer-son and his wife Rita Cooiidge, Jackson Browne, Harry Otapin, Neil Sedaka, Ferrante and Teieher, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and a Glenn MiHer-Jitnmy Dorsey night with Tex Beneke, Helen O’Connell and Bob Eber-iy-Blossom will schedule more such performers for its season running June 20 through Sept. 16.The spring sale of Blossom coupon books has started by members of the Blossom Music Center Women’s Committee. Coupon sales will be conducted through May 20 and are available from Blossom Coupon Sales, U001 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 4106.The 1978 season also includes the Cleveland Orchestra, orchestra festival, pops and Sunday concerts featuring internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists including Henry Mancini, Mitch Miller and Edward Vii-lella.The Blossom supplement containing the complete schedule of programming and ticket prices will be published May 21.Tiekets for all events during the 1978 season will be available by mail order only beginning May 22. Further information is available by contacting Blossom Music Center.* * *of Toledo majoring in theater, has been selected from national auditions for a job with the Opryland-USA summer entertainment center in Nashville, Tenn.She started rehearsals in February and will perform in one of the park’s shows, “I Hear America Singing,” from April 1 through October. The show is a review of music from the twenties through the present.Miss Bartish, a graduate of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Bartish, 1960 Middle Ridge Rd., Amherst, appeared in local community theater productions as well as shows at the University of Toledo. She had lead roles of Judas in “Godspell” and Maria in “West Side Story.”A segment of her performance as Maria was videotaped by WGTE-TV, the public broadcasting station in Toledo, as part of an hour-long documentary of University of Toledo theater productions in December.She is considering continuing her musical studies in New York City after Opryland closes for the season.Miss Bartish was selected for the Opryland company in auditions held in mid-December in Ann Arbor, Mich.
