Ed Fisher fired; 75 years at WJWCLEVELAND — Fifteen years as early morning music man for WJW Radio ended abruptly when disc jockey Ed Fisher was fired Friday after completing his 6 to 10 a.m. show, effective immediately.Richard P. Bremkamp Jr., president and general manager of the station, said Fisher did not fit into our plans the station’s new owners have in “looking for growth opportunities with its audience.”Lake Erie Radio Co. bought the station from Storer Broadcasting Oct. 12 for $2.5 million.THE 52-YEAR-OLD air personality was leaving as planned this morning to lead a tour group of 100 personsto Hawaii for two weeks. Temporarily he will be replaced by weekend music host Bob Henderson until a permanent replacement is hired.He gave no indication Friday was his last program when on the air, but.reportedly said the firing was not a surprise to him.A native of Butler, he has been known for the tagline “Take good care of the babies” signing off each show. He joined WJW-TV in 1958 as a staff announcer, was Bozo the Clown on that show for the station beginning in 1960 and had worked in radio for KYW (now WWWE), WGAR and WERE before joining WJW Radio in May, 1962.
