Fourth of July* Family PicnicJoining together in a spirit of fellowship and fun, 73 people turned out for the family picnic supper of the Santa Anita Community Church of Religious Science on the Fourth of July in the spacious garden of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Carter’s residence, 945 Chapea road, Chapman Woods, Pasadena. Each family brought a potluck dish, and coffee and rolls were furnished and complete dinner sold under the supervision of Miss Ruth Sweet. Dr. Ii. M. Barnhart acted as cashier and reception chairman, seated at a gaily-decorated stand at the entrance to the grounds. Under a beautiful setting of oak trees and flowers an old-fashioned well and water-trough were decorated with red, white- and blue streamers and converted into lemonade and home-made icecream stands. Mr. Gallagher of Pasadena led the singing. Helen Sweat of Michillinda conducted the games which included a spelling bee and relay race of unwrapping and chewing sticks of gum handicapped by garden gloves. Much credit for the success of the occasion goes to Helen Sweat, chairman of the planning committee. Those attending from San Marino and nearby communities were: Mary Robinson, Madeleine Reid, Dorothy Pierson, Helen Sweat, Ruth Sweat, Dr. and Mrs. Barnhart, Miss Hallie Hughes, Jimmie Ra.y Dormermann, Mr. and Mrs. T. Lloyd Jones, Florence Watry, Gretchen Brem-merman, Helen Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Carter.
