Debs House To Be Closed For RepairsBeginning Sunday, DebsHouse, 451 North Eighth Street, home of the noted humanitarian labor leader, Eugene V. Debs, will be closed for several weeks, Dr. J. Robert Constantine, secretary of the Eugene V. Debs Foundation, said today.Since the home has been named a National Historic Landmark, by the National Park System, directors of the Foundation have wanted to get some work on the home done before ceremonies this summer or fall are held.Principal item to be changed during the present repairs will be the upstairs hall which will be rasfcored to the way it was when Debs lived there.Primarily this hall will become a hall of fame for labor with photos of the recipients of the Eugene V. Debs annual award being hung in the hall beside framed copies of their citation. To date two persons have been so honored,—John L. Lewis, president emeritus of the United Mine Workers of America and founder of the CIO and Norman Thomas, Debs* successor as leader of the socialist party. It is estimated that present remodelling will take several weeks and the home will be! closed to the public until further notice.
