INDIANA POIjISS FEBRUARY 12,1631,We are authorized and requested to inform the public that the Hon. WILLIAM C, LINTON, of Vigo county is a candidate for the office of Lieutenant Governor of the State of Indiana, al the approaching August election.We have also been requested to say that the Hon. JAMES GREGORY ofShelby county is n candidate tor the office of Lieutenant Governor of the Slate ofIndiana at the ensuing election ia August.Col. DAVID WALLACE,of Franklin county is also mentioned as a candidate for the same office, ami although we are not authored to announce him as such, vet we have heard him declare his intentions to that effect.“The lono agony is over.—It is now distinctly understood that President JACjKSON will not decline serving the people of the Union in the capacity of P res • ident, for a second term, should they again honor him with their confidence. This i3 as we expected, and we deem it a fortunate determination for the prosperity, happiness, and repose ofihe country.LEGISLATURE.The Legislature adjourned sine die on Thursday last, after an interesting session of nine weeks and a half.Much important busincsshas been done, and we arc inclined to believe that much benefit vyiil accrue to the public from a part of the labours of the late session.Among the most important acts, of a genera! nature arc,The act repealing the usury laws, in such mnnncr that contracts for specified amounts of interest shall be valid and collectable between parties wiihout regard to established rates, except in cases where no definite rate is named in the contract.The acts changing the mode of transacting county business, from Justices courts to commissioners.The act regulating the emigration of free negroes to thb State, whereby they are compelled to furnish testimonials of good character, and to give security for their good behaviour, and that they will not become paupers upon the country.The act apportioning the State into Senatorial and Representative District.The act distributing between forty and
