The Richardson Community Concert Band will present its second concert Wednesday evening Sept. 1, at Terrace Park, 300 N. Dorothy in Richardson.Scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m., the band, under the direction of Joe Frank, will play the exciting “Light Cavalry Overture”, by Franz von Suppe, “Semper Fide-lis and “The Thunderer” by John Phillip Sousa, a number of medlies including selections from “The Man of La Mancha”, favorite Richard Rodgers show tunes, and an arrangement of familiar sea songs.“The response to our first concert was so gratifying, Frank said, “that all of us are eager to perform again for the residents of Richardson. They were a great audience — we estimate there were more than 1,100 listeners, not including babies and dogs.“We rehearse with the hope of playing to an appreciative audience, and when we get the applause we did that night, we’re anxious to play again. And, we hope, to play to an even bigger audience,” he concluded.A long-time prominent member of the Richardson musical community, Frank is the Director of the Symphonic Band and in charge of Instrumental InstructionatSMU.Until early this year he was the director of all music instruction programs in the Richardson IndependentSchool District.The Richardson Community Band, formed by Frank in November, 1970, is composed of volunteer musicians, mostly Richardson residents, along with others from North Dallas and neighboring suburbs.
