41s Powwow AtTama SettlementTAMA, Iowa, JP — Visiting tribes at the 41st annual Powwow at the Tama Indian Settlement whooped it up in the Western Championship Dance Contest Sunday.Jesup . Lasley, 38, member of the 'MesquaJcie tribe.at. the reser. vation here, was declared the winner, Clifford Youngbear, 25, larm-er of) the reservation took second and Victor Lasely, 28, brother of Jessup w$s third.The three had finished ,in. this, same order in last year’s contest, An estimated 2,500 persons witnessed the performance.Nineteen Indians from Chicago, representing various tribes, staged i a combined tribal dance. • \Other performances were given, by visiting Sioux, Shawnee, Winne. ; bago and Chippewa Indians' and i there also were dancers represent- | ing the Taos Pueblo tribe, from j New Mexico, and the Oneida tribe | from Oklahoma. . . jThere were more. visiting tribes at the four-day Powwow this year than ever before and each one gave, its tribal dance. ■'
