CROWDS ARE GATHERING FOR FARMERS PICNICFully 2f000 Persons On The Grounds For Annual Farm OccasionGOOD SPEAKERS HEREGeorge Youngbear, Indian, Of Tama, One of Speakers In The AfternoonAs we write these lines the farms of this section for miles around avc deserted afid whole families in large numbers have turned out for the annual Farmers Union picnic at Grundmnn’s grove, north of Pella. The attendance is not exclusively of a local complexion, for people are present from all over the country.The weather during the day was somewhat warm, however the immense crowd seemed to enter heartily into the spirit of the occasion and were forgetting the heat. Quite a few families partook of dinner on the grounds and the soft drink and eating stands did a big business in the afternoon and evening.Morning ProgramWith Harold J. Veenstra, president of the Marion County Farmers Union, presiding, the morning program was ushered in with the invocation and an address by Pres-iden Irwin J, Lubbers of Central college, followed by a spicy and interesting home—talent program, for which this group is noted.Speakers in the afternoon were Rev. Dean Chapman, Methodist pastor of Ogden, Iowa, A. J. Johnson, vice president and acting president of the Iowa Farmers Union, and George Youngbear, native Tama Indian. All addresses were filled with food for thought anti inspiration to carry on the fight for better days for agriculture and were well received. We hope to have more about them next week.Despite the drouth and discouragement in the face of a curtailed corn crop, it was a happy crowd that we saw on the grounds Wednesday afternoon. Neighbors und friends were meeting and exchanging greetings with each other and having a general good time.
