Ex-Oberlin DJ un der FC C probeBy NANCY REED C*T Staff WriterThe Federal Communications Commission(FCC) has launched an investigation into the activities of Scott Miller, the former Oberlin disc jockey who simulated being a hostage for 50 days.The inquiry was prompted by a report Miller had solicited money f°r the families of the hostages in Iran but had not given the money to the families.Miller, who along with Doc Lemon was fired from WOBL Feb. 2 for “irresolvable policy differences,” said he had not been contacted by the FCC and denied soliciting any funds over the air.WOBL station owner Harry Wilber also denied any soliciation of funds over the air. He said he was surprised when he received a letter from the FCC asking for clarification of the situation. “It’s just an inquiry and as far as soliciting funds goes, there wasn’t any,” be said.ARTHUR GINSBURG, chief of the agency’s complaints and compliance division, said he expected some response on the investigation by mid-April.The complaint of fraudulent fund-soliciting was made to the Lorain County Prosecutor'sWZLE in Sheffield Township, said he sold copies of a record he cut, “Stand Up for the Flag of America by Bob Saffer, to benefit the hostages’ families. He said he could have sold his records for himself but decided to use it to help the hostage’s families.MILLER SAID he sold 60 of the 200 copies he had made at »1 a piece. He said he has not given the money to anyone yet because he has not found the proper organization to take themoney.Office which referred it to the FCC because the county decided it lacked jurisdiction.Miller, now a country music disc jockey onHe said he would be bappy to write a check for the amount he raised but only to the proper organization in order to ensure the money gets to the families and no one else.
