The Lord Advocate who seeks Glasgow and Aberdeen Universities is said to be certain of victory and has issued a farewell address to Thetford electors. Madame Rachel faced Central Criminal Court in London charged with obtaining 143 pounds by false pretences from Mrs Borrodaile. Trial adjourned. A medal was awarded at Brompton Barracks to Corporal William Chamberlain for distinguished service in Abyssinia. Two men died in Staffordshire from a gunpowder explosion while sinking a pit. A discharged soldier robbed Mrs Langley at Notting Hill, badly wounding her. the robber escaped and remained at large.

Also plans legal action against the Caledonian Company for judicial examination of books and officials.
The Rev Dr J B Johnstone a U P Minister in Glasgow who heckled Sir Norman Lockhart at a Lanarkshire meeting has had his name removed from the voters roll by Sheriff Bell. He claimed to be tenant of a Biggar house but occupied it only part of the year with his sister paying rent and taxes while most furniture belonged to him.
