Strouds Victory Day Celebrated With Civic Parade And Carnival
Stroud celebrated Victory Day with a CRUECH service in the park, a procession, and a days long athletic carnival. The event was organized by the local Helarney Sol dit League with schools Boy Scouts and public bodies well represented. Prizes honored adults Mire and M B Goord Miss O Gorton and a range of children for fancy dress and a goat cart display. Special merits awarded to Warren Maylom Bul Eai munds and Banond heiwunds and to Bir HOO Mritehedl. The religious service featured Rev G W Wilson and addresses by Rev A Gibbins and Rev Blakemore. Sports were led by G Armstrong A Campbell Miss R Brooks B Bourke J Neville P Heckenham and school staff. Crowds enjoyed the high jump and a tug of war that favored the ladies. A hot-water stand and picnic lunches were available. A collection plus donations raised £6 12s 1d for the C W A Food for Britain appeal. The organizing committee led by Mr B Green and secretary Mr A H Bowen received broad support.

Harris was born in Newcastle and moved to Copeland with his parents, pursued mining across Western Australia, returned to Copeland, married Mrs Margaret Gorton, and is survived by his brothers Albert Sid Henry Ernie and sisters. Funeral held at Gloucester General Cemetery after service at St Pauls Church of England. Our sincere sympathy to the bereaved.
