Campaign kickoff by former ALP leaders in Gloucester
Mr TW McCristal former president of the Gloucester Electorate Labor Council and ex-president of Sidebottom branch of the ALP opened his Gloucester campaign in Tarve last Saturday. He outlined breaking from the ALP and forming an Australian Republican Party to block Communist influence and defend democratic government. He attacked the New State proposal, called for Senate abolition, and cited debates with Mr Fitzgerald and Mr Fitzgerald’s 1947 manifesto. He pledged further speaking engagements.

School girl gored to death by a bull near Gatton
Sylvia Duncan a nine year old girl from Ma Ma Creek near Gatton was killed when a Jersey bull in a drover's herd charged her as she walked home from Ma Ma School. The animal gored her arm chest and lungs and she died instantly beside the road. Hodges the drover tried to save her but the creature struck again and she succumbed to massive injuries. Police and Dr Webster were alerted from Ma Ma Creek.
