Pioneer Passes Mrs Elizabeth Bendeich of Stanhope
Elizabeth Bendeich, 47, a Stanhope pioneer born in Germany in 1845, died suddenly on Tuesday afternoon last week. She migrated with her parents on the Cadawadle voyage, married Joseph Karl Bendeleh in 1872, raised nine children, and built a large, well-equipped property. A devout Catholic, she supported local causes, remembered early settlers hardships, and recalled the famous Bendeich war team and a Newcastle race against the Water Police lasting 274 minutes.

Country Women's Association Holds June Meeting at Dungog
The Country Women's Association met in the great room on Friday June 3 with 25 members present. President Mrs J K Mackay led the session featuring reports from Bullahdelah branch and plans to renovate the Mary Johns Memorial Ward at Dungog Hospital. A fundraising fair at Stuart's Picture Theatre in August was agreed, and a motion urged manufacturers to supply half sleeve shirts to save material.
