Wollongong butcher pays top price at Sydney fat cattle show
At the Sydney fat cattle show sale last Friday a Wollongong butcher paid 180 for an Aberdeen Angus steer weighing 1225 pounds and crowned champion. Frank Caldwell of Caldwell Bros. Wollongong also paid 60 for the champion pen of three Aberdeen Angus steers shown by Bad Bluir Pastoral Co. Guyra. Stock experts said prices were down from last year amid industry decline. Yon terfield's B. Johnston won the highest price for a junior farmer receiving 54 for a Hereford Shorthorn cross from F C Hichells.

Thieves Active in Taree and Forster Burglaries
Thieves have operated in Taree over weeks entering nine business premises with no substantial hauls. The largest theft amounted to £80 worth of tobacco from a hairdresser. In Forster the Regent Theatre was broken into but no money was taken. Two burglaries hit a general store, with £7 10s in money taken first and £9 worth of goods missing on a second visit.

Throat cut in unusual accident at Waverley
A 1-year old woman, Mrs Guyot, nearly bled to death after her throat was cut in an accident at Waverley. She tripped over a mop near a toilet, fell, and struck the toilet pedestal. Her husband, Mr Dick Guyot, found her with blood pouring from the wound. Doctors stitched the throat. the operation lasted about two hours with several blood transfusions. Her condition is satisfactory.

Miner fatally shot while rabbiting near Cessnock
Evan John Stacey, 25, was killed by a head wound while rabbiting in rough country at Stanhope near Cessnock on a Sunday morning. He was among five in a party with his father and brother Donald. Stacey fired at a rabbit about 100 yards away when he stepped into the line of fire of Fuller, who also shot at the rabbit.

Valuable Kelpie Nips Poisoned in Copeland Case
A Kelpie named Nips owned by Mr. Ernie Harris died after contracting convulsions at a Copeland dairy last Sunday. The dog, with a pedigree dating to the 1880s, fell ill shortly after returning from grazing duty. Three other dogs and a cat have died in the same area, with a Copeland correspondent asserting strychnine was used to poison the pets.
