Lottery scheme in Dublin seeks funds for estate purchase
A 1778 notice describes a private lottery offering one prize of a rent charge on a large estate. Tickets cost one guinea with 24,000 tickets issued. the drawing coincides with the London state lottery. Proceeds fund the mortgage, with protections for holders and timelines for deed transfer. Tickets sold at the printer in William Street Dublin and by post. Also lists various goods for sale and a call for volunteers for East Indies service.

Hunt Purse Races and Subscriptions At Finae
The Gentlemen of the Finae Hunt meet in Finae on Monday October 5th with WM Henry Cooper as president. Purse races of fifty guineas and a subscription purse below fifty guineas are planned for four mile heats with horses certified, entered eight days prior, under Alexander Walker. Entrance fee one shilling in the pound. non subscribers two shillings, or double at the post.
