Chamberlains Office Proposes Militia and Volunteer Reforms

In Dublin Castle dated October 4 1813 Lord Castlereagh outlines a new military measure. Militiamen may transfer to Europe with a ten Guinea bounty. half pay on disbandment. Militia volunteers into the line earn twelve Guineas and life service. Captains to Ensigns proportioned to one per hundred men. Officers start half pay and gain permanent rank after foreign service. All agree the plan meets extraordinary national needs.
