Fragmentary remarks from a parliamentary session show Lords and MPs clashing over Hastings. Speakers defend or condemn actions in Bengal and Oude, debate public governance, and warn of constitutional risks in impeachment.
In a tense session Mr Pox and others objected to postponing all articles except the first. The House debated propriety before the Lords and 86 votes indicated majority support. Mr Box urged timing for the final discussion of the Route impeachment. The first article was read and the House adjourned content with Mr Fox's remarks.
Monday last a troop from his Majesty's second regiment of Horse, led by Lieutenant Reynell, marched from Longford to Philipstown. In Kildare a mob of hundreds attacked a guard escorting prisoners to Dollylin. Three were killed and several wounded before the men secured the prisoners and lodged them in the New jail in Dublin. Excellency, the Lord Lieutenant, thanked the seven men and the regiment for their conduct. Christopher Powell was respited until the 24th.
