Fire roars through Chatham destroys dozens of homes

Private letters from London describe an extensive fire in Chatham late Friday morning. Initial reports claimed 4 to 500 houses burned and radicals manipulating the blaze, but later accounts reduce the figure to a few dozen with two inns and the Sun and Old Kings Arms reported destroyed. The wind worsened conditions. fire engines fought the flames but could not halt it at first. A number of firemen arrived from Insurance Omega, and by the latest advices the fire neared extinction though Best’s brewery remained alight. No ships or arsenal were proven lost.

The revived law would extend existing Acts only until June 20, 1820, but the last act expired February 29, and its revival cannot be included.
