A Plymouth sloop bound for Cork embayed near Slade in Waterford county was towed out by seven boatmen from Slade, six remaining in their boat. all seven drowned when the boat sank in Bagenbun Bay. Names: Henry Fortune Hugh Moran Simon Bryun William Fortune jun Peter Fortune jun Michael Ryan jun. The Waterford mercantile body urged urgent relief for the widows and orphans and praised the Slade boatmen for their brave aid.
