Murder near Quendon shocks Essex in 19th century death

A Globe and Traveller letter reports a brutal murder on Monday night near Quendon Essex. Mr Mumford junior of Whittington Hall was attacked after leaving the Walden coach near Quendon street. He was beaten, left for dead, and later found with the body near Clay Pit. The suspected killer is a son of one of Mumford’s workmen and was arrested with the victim’s property on him.
