A Post Assembly on William Street elected Alderman in place of the late Alderman Alley. The board sent down Sir N W Brady Knight Sir George Whiteford Knight Charles P Archer Esq and Lewis Morgan Esq. The ballot favored Archer and he was declared successful, amid laughter over a ballot paper mishap and a corn card anecdote.
At Dublin Corn Exchange on August 29 prime fresh quality wheat sold dull about 3s lower than last week. Oats trade steady though firmer prices last week, some new oats of soft quality bringing 15s to 15s per barrel. Flour demand has ceased for now and prices may ease. Prime wheat ranged 30s to 59s per barrel. oats 14s to 15s per barrel.
