Dublin Journal reports the Manchester Meeting ended in confusion and fear as disturbances sparked unrest. The crowd’s anger and threats led to a tense atmosphere, with participants and observers fearing violence and property damage amid disputed opinions.
Eyewitness accounts describe a massive crowd from Rochdale Middleton and Oldham rallying for a reform meeting. Riot act read, cavalry and infantry charged, multiple deaths and injuries reported, with shops closed and streets cleared as troops restored order in Manchester and Salford.
In a Sunday incident a Reformera party trained at Witte Maas near Blakely four miles from Manchester. Baker Mr Mednay and clerk Mr Saaweaugay led exercise when farmers gathered and were attacked with clubs. Several were injured as they fled toward the nearby church. The assailants escaped, leaving a bloody scene and stories of brutal behavior.
