Turkish Victory Over Muscovites Reported From Constantinople
Letters from Constantinople dated August 4 to 7 describe the complete defeat of the Muscovite army of about 60,000 led by the Czar, with heavy casualties. The Grand Vizier accepted preliminaries promising Azov, Kamieniec, Tagareck, and Samara fortifications to be altered, Ukrainian autonomy, and surrender of Moldavia’s Hospodar, plus cannon and ammo. Sweden seeks full peace terms, while the Grand Signior pursues full Swedish satisfaction before Muscovite withdrawal.
