Danish Defeat of Swedish Squadron Near Kiel
A report from the AmPerdan Gazette details a April 24 engagement between Danish forces under Admiral Gabel and the Swedish squadron led by Rear Admiral Wachtmeister off the Kiel region. The Swedes, attempting to break through the Belt, were driven toward the Baltic coast, forced aground near Kiel, and ultimately surrendered after heavy Danish bombardment and naval action. The Danish tally cited 60? killed and 249 wounded on their side, with 116 Swedes killed and a large prisoner count. The action included captures of officers, ships, and frigates, with Danish forces pursuing the remaining Swedish vessels into the main sea. Additional notes reference broader European military moves and Ottoman concerns, but the central focus remains the Danish victory and Swedish capitulation near Kiel.
