Report from August 17 recounts a major victory near Almanara in Catalonia on July 25–26. General Stanhope led a diverse force through Balaguer and Lerida lines, routing the enemy’s cavalry and causing a large disorderly retreat. Allied losses include several officers. British and Dutch units, Palatines, and Jager squadrons contributed to the action. Prisoners numbered in the hundreds and cannon and baggage fell into our hands.
