Bernese victory over Papists at Vilmergen in 1712 war
The Bern canton reports a five hour battle near Vilmergen where Protestant Bern defeated Roman Catholic forces from Lucern Uri Schwitz Unterwaldt and Zug. Bern seized seven cannon and color standards, with heavy losses on both sides and notable officer casualties. The clash followed failed peace negotiations and a renewed effort to defend liberties.
