Cardinal orders executions after oath refusal in San Marino
The Cardinal demanded oaths from deputies and residents, threatening confiscation and hanging if obstinate. Houses were plundered, a wife insulted during childbirth, and several leaders confined. The Cardinal urged authorities to reveal the populace’s surrender while fortifications at Monte Giardino and Fontano surrendered under threat of cannon.
