Ancient silver dish found near Roman wall with mythic figures
In Newcastle area a Smith’s Daughter unearthed a large ancient silver disc near a Roman wall. The piece, 20 inches by 2 broad and richly decorated with Apollo, Minerva, a priestess and other figures, weighs about 148 ounces. Goldsmith Mr Cooketts values it highly. Royal Society and Antiquaries assess it as a valuable antique relic.
