And it just so happens that Genoa loves to play a disciplined offense, an ideal one to win with when you’re out in front from the start.Is EC coach Bob Gurnta concerned about his club getting off to another shaky start?Nope.THAT’S WHAT confidence can do for a coach who firmly believes his players can get the job done when it counts the most—at the final buzzer (and not necessarily at the start).Even though his squad was faced with 8-0 deficits against Highland and Firelands and a similar 7-2 deficit against Elyria West, Guinta isn’t concerned. That’s probably because his team has time and time again come through with sterling second half performances.“As long as we keep winning, we can get a bad start every time,” quips Gumta. In a more serious note, Guinta says, “I don’t like the bad starts, but we’re capable of going out and pressuring If the pressure’s there, we’re O.K. If not, we’re in trouble.”Still, Guinta’s crew must face a patient Genoa team and put on full-eourt pressure on Bowling Green’s full-sized gym floor. The larger floor—and, thus, larger areas to guard in pressure situations—don't concern Guinta. “Lorain Catholic's eourt is that size and we played pretty good over there,” he says “It could be afactor but I don’t think so. I feel we could pressure in somebody's barn.”FULL-COURT PRESSES are nothing new to Genoa coach Bill Axe. His crew captured the Suburban Lakes League championship and he says, “This doggone league has more presses than what I’ve ever seen. A lot of teams live or die off the press. We’ve had to take it (pressure defenses) every week.”Axe witnessed Elyria Catholic’s thrilling 64-63 district title game victory over Elyria West last Friday night. He was impressed with the Panthers in general and guard Gary Grambley in particular.“They’re a very adaptable team what with the way they played against (West center Sam) Johnson,” Axe says. “They played it perfectly. He’s got that distinctive quality in him. He’s an inside and outside threat. He's got leadership qualities. They’ve got a driver in Grambley and a streak-shooter in (guard Tom) Smelko. Smith (EC center George Smith} is a bulky player.
