In her petition the plaintiff states that she was married to the defendant in December, 1868, and has since been a dutiful and loving wife. But that without provocation the defendant has treated her cruelly and inhumanly and in such a manner as to endanger her life. He has repeatedly struck and beat her and threatened to kill her, He made her get up from a sickbed and go to work in the field and has tyranically drien her children and neighbors from the house and lliepla'n till is afraid to live with him and believes her life is unsafe. Moreover he is accustomed to use intoxicating liquor to excess and squanders bis wealth, in consideration of all this she asks for a divorce and any other equitable relief at her costs. The defendant, I. A. Jones, is a well known character in this and other communities. Some time ago bis wife had him before the insane commissioners, but failed to have him declared insane. Consequently she lakes the divorce method to free herself from him.
