The Oddfellows held a district gathering in Gilbert Plains with a recitation by Miss Jones and an address by F Hawkins grand master. A Rebekah Lodge luncheon followed. The Dauphin Town No. 905 school district will hold a public meeting in the MacKenzie auditorium to discuss school problems. Residents urged to attend and take part in the discussions.

Alleged Firebug Sets Thirteen Fires in Park

A park warder spotted the first fire during a patrol by seaplane and alerted a district warden. Rangers extinguished four more fires Tuesday and eight on Wednesday with no timber loss. Superintendent Heaslip urges surrounding farmers to form vigilance committees to prevent further wilful fires.

First Carload of Vegetables Sent to Dried Area

The effort gathered many vegetables and substantial cash donations this week to ship to the drought stricken area. A second car remains available for more contributions and residents are urged to bring surplus produce to the Northern elevator on Thursday through Saturday. People can call Darwin Chase, Rev. D. K. Burns, Rev. H. E. Bridgett, or the Herald Office to have their donation called for. The Canadian National Railways are providing free transport for the vegetables.

Wasagaming Trade Board Tours Minot and North Dakota

Citizens from Neepawa Minnedosa Dauphin Brandon Souris and Ridin g Mountain area joined the Wasagaming Board of Trade goodwill tour to Minot North Dakota centers. Over sixty in the party reported warm welcomes from town officials and the Chamber of Commerce during stops at Minnedosa Brandon Souris Deloraine Bottineau and a dinner in Bottineau.

Three Day Chicken Season Sets 20 Bird Limit

The prairie chicken season will run one day longer than last year with the same bag limits. Rural reports indicate plentiful ringnecked pheasants in southwestern Manitoba. Penalties apply for shooting pheasants not in season.

First Ukrainian Talking Picture Shown in Dauphin

The first Ukrainian talking picture drew good crowds at the Ukrainian People's Home on September 23 24 and 25 with a special midnight show at 12 01 am. The operetta titled A Girl from Ukraine or Natalha Poltovka featured good acting and singing and told of a poor girl saved from an arranged marriage by her lover at the altar.

Girl dies of burns after distillate explosion

Edna Shymka, 14, of Shortdale, died in Grandview Hospital Friday from burns suffered a week earlier when distillate used to hasten cooking exploded while her father prepared dinner.

Ochre River Man Dies Sudden at Auction Sale

At Ochre River, an auction by George Shields was halted when veteran farmer Mr Kilborn collapsed and died as the third horse was being offered. Funeral held Sunday at one, Rev W R Donagh presiding.
