Death by Own Action Shocks Roblin District Family

A Roblin Manitoba report details a family tragedy where two siblings George and Myrtle Little died by self inflicted gunshot wounds in their home after prior summonses for an inquest into a brother's death. A sister Alberta Little survived a suicide attempt by cutting her throat and is recovering in hospital.

Col legiate Literary Society Opens New Officers

The opening meeting on Friday September 24 in the auditorium featured God Save the King and a short program with piano solo by Miss Freda Seward and vocal by Miss Irene Iredale. Russell Stewart installed the new officers and the meeting closed with the national anthem. The Collegiate and Normal annual sports day is planned for Friday October 1 at the fair grounds, weather permitting, everyone welcome.

Dauphin Guides Form New Friday Group Under Mrs Delmage

A new Guide Company under Mrs Delmage meets weekly on Friday afternoons and reports a strong start in numbers. The 1st Company Dauphin Guides, Captain Mrs Beetham, enrolled by Commissioner Mrs Bonnycastle, held a simple ceremony with a promise and admission to the sisterhood, ending with God Save the King and Taps. A greater Movie Week is planned at the Dauphin Theatre starting October 4.

Storms Damage Winnipegosis Boat and Crew Reveal

The Armstrong Independent Fisheries boat Armenon faced a severe gale with heavy seas washing over her deck-house and decks. crew pumps failed and three times had to seek shelter to keep afloat before delivering cargo to the Massey river. Captain Jack Denby calls the storm the worst yet as the Manitou found shelter at Spruce Island. Also notes a fall bride elect Lois Whale, a Rex Hall shower, a children's service at Union church, and Jack Degby named residential manager of Armstrong Independent Fishery.

Ballot Count Totals Recorded by Returning Officer

The returning officer Mr R J Malcolm released the official tally on Tuesday September 28 showing total votes cast 12 762 and votes for key candidates Bowman and others. The figures compare the 1926 total to 1925, indicating a rise in participation.

GUNS SEIZED INQUIRIES LINKED TO CRIMINAL PLANS

Ten guns of various makes lie in the office of Provincial Police Inspector A G Cunningham as inquiries continue. Four are tied to suicides in the district, one to a bank robbery, and another to stolen property. The tenth gun has no bad record but is held for association with suspected criminals.

Manitoba Wheat Pool and Northwest Grain Dealers Reach Yearly Handling Pact

The Manitoba Wheat Pool and the Northwest Grain Dealers Association announced a joint agreement on handling Pool grain for the current year. The pact runs until May 20 1927 and then through August 1 1927 unless 14 days notice of cancellation is given. It covers all elevators in Manitoba and allows Pool farmers to have grain handled by cash or storage tickets, wagon-load or car lots, to speed handling and reduce losses from recent bad weather.

Edmonton hosts the thirteenth annual convention with over one hundred delegates from nine provinces. Highlights include welcomes by Lt Governor Egbert and Premier Brownlee, provincial road goals for 1927, and Manitoba and Dauphin concerns about all weather highways in the Ochre River region.

Wells Dies in Detroit Brother of Dauphin Resident

Mrs. Wm. Murray received a wire from Detroit announcing the death of her brother Chas. E. Wells at his home there. Wells had lived in Dauphin, was known to many older residents, and left the town about 26 years ago. Robt. Hawkins Chas. McLachlin J. W. Johnston A. A. Brewer depart Friday for Portage la Prairie to attend Keystone Chapter convocation. Hawkins is Second Principal of the Grand Chapter of Manitoba and McLachlin is Grand Superintendent of this Masonic division.

Rally Day Observed Across Grace and St James Sunday Schools

Sunday schools held Rally Day with large attendance. Grace Church featured recitations, a "United for Service" pageant, a "Missionary Misss" reading, a Japan themed display, and a talk by Miss Bates in costume. St James' marked the day with a gathering and a rally address by Mrs. H. M. Lyons. Baptist Church evening service led by the Y P S included songs. Mrs Capt Joyce of the Salvation Army spoke on "Jacob."

Snowstorm damages Dauphin district telephone lines

A severe snow and windstorm last week damaged telephone lines across the Dauphin district. The Lake Road east area saw two miles of poles snapped at the base and wires down. Wire Chief Darlington deployed extra crews to restore trunk line service and begin rebuilding a new pole line. Two more miles of line from Mc Killop's west to the track were down, with additional minor outages elsewhere due to the same storm.
