The RCM Police report Rose Lee, 34, widow, was shot Sunday September 26 in Dauphin. She was struck in the head by an unknown assailant, taken to hospital and expected to be released by midweek. Police continue the investigation.
The DMCC arena hosts Giant Liono this Friday with 16 games offering prizes totaling over 5000 dollars. Advance tickets 2.50 dollars include a chance at 100 dollars on numbers and a Meteor Rideau sedan prize. proceeds benefit the Dauphin Lions Club Community Projects fund. Leaf Construction Ltd will move plant and equipment into town this week to set for asphalt surfacing on several streets. With favorable weather the project should finish in about ten days.
At the veterans reunion in Dauphin County armouries on Saturday September 25 about 30 people attended. The Cen tennial project aims to publish a Golden Book listing Canadian veterans of Ukrainian descent who served in World War I II and Korea. Nicholas A. Hryhorczyk of Ethelberg received a life membership during the program.
The past week brought four rainy days totaling .10 inches and a record low on the 25th, with the cool reaching a new low for the date since 1926. Frost on the 25th and 26th killed many plants, ending garden work nationwide as warnings of poor sunshine persist.
Nomination day for the 1966-67 civic elections is scheduled for next Wednesday October 6. The Dauphin town council seats include mayoral post, four councillors, and two-year terms for several incumbents. Dauphin Ochre Area board also lists three two-year seats and one one-year term to fill a vacancy. Dauphin Local School Board No 905 has two trustee seats for the town division currently held by Mrs June Barber and Roy Caruk.
The Dauphin Centennial committee will present the Fathers of Confederation Re-enactment twice on Tuesday Oct 5. The public afternoon show for DCTI students and an evening performance for neighboring high school students are planned. Adult tickets are at Lockhart & Lillie Agencies 15 Second Avenue NW with a reception in Legion hall after the show. Touring actors dine with Rotary and Lions clubs during their stay. The drama titled The Dream was written for the Centennial Commission by Tommy Tweed of Toronto.
Walter Bialobzyski announces his candidacy for Dauphin town council. A former French teacher and ex-president of the local teachers’ association, he serves with the Knights of Columbus and Cub Scouts, holds degrees from Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and is married with three sons.
Douglas will address a local NDP rally at 2 PM in the afternoon. The event aims to energize supporters and promote party platforms in the community gathering.
Prime Minister Lester B Pearson will visit Dauphin on October 7 for an evening reception at the armouries and a short address. He arrives by air late Wednesday with a party of about 40 press and officials. The event includes local bands, student areas, and parking at the airport for a large North Western Manitoba attendance.
Hon. Arthur Laing minister of northern affairs will headline the Dauphin Federal Liberal association nominating convention at Eleventh Avenue hall on Wednesday at 8 pm. Laing, BC native and 1925 BC agriculture science graduate, has held federal and provincial posts and led the BC Liberal party before serving in parliament and cabinet roles.
Public meeting with twenty five attendees including council members and solicitors discussed a proposed 1965 Town of Dauphin Planning Scheme amendment covering agricultural and open space areas. Officials outlined land use districts, appeal rights, and future map stages for council review and ministerial approval.
A federal loan of 15 367 dollars was approved for Ochre River to support a sewage treatment project under the National Housing Act. The 20 year loan at 5 percent funds a lift station, 1 700 feet of four inch forcemain and a sewage lagoon, with possible partial loan forgiveness by CMHC before March 31, 1967.
