Power Hook Up Starts In Dauphin Rural Area

Manitoba Power Commission begins rural electrification in Dauphin area with first farm connected at 5 30 am Friday. About 125 farms in the Dauphin district will gain electric service, plus 83 additional lines. First household powered is that of George Buchannon, followed by W J Buchannon L H Richardson and PB Caldwell as crews extend service toward Sifton Winnipegosis segment. Two trucks stay on duty to complete hookups in about two weeks.

Wheat donated to DMCC fund by Mountview farmer

A Mountview farmer donated a load of wheat to the Dauphin Memorial and Community Centre fund this past week. W Cruise DMCC chair said the gift surprised officials and that the board has acquired a quota book to handle grain donations. more contributions from local rural residents will be welcomed.

Fire truck display planned during Fire Prevention Week

Dauphinites can view the town's new fire truck in action during a practice drill on Main Street as part of Fire Prevention Week October 9 to 15. The demonstration will show pumping capacity and attainable pressure, with details to follow.

Dauphin Considers Bus Franchise Under Highway Traffic Act

Dauphin council weighs a non exclusive bus franchise with Durston and Henderson under the Highway Traffic Act. A draft agreement, including loading zones and trial operation, would go to the public utility board and ratepayers for approval, with a Nov 1 start targeted if agreed.

Dr. O McGuirk Elected to Canadian Veterinary Group

Dr. O McGuirk of Dauphin was elected to a one year term on the governing body of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association at a Dominion association meeting. The Manitoba Veterinary Association hosted the Winnipeg convention with support from leaders of American and Canadian medical and veterinary education.

New School Bus Arrives for Dauphin Area No 1

The 50 passenger Dauphin Ochre School Area No 1 bus arrived early Monday in Dauphin and began daily service Tuesday afternoon. The yellow bus with black trim assumed the south route after school and will run to the park gate, delivering children to town schools.

D M C C Seeks Land Transfer And Street Closures

The Dauphin Memorial and Community Centre board asks council to transfer land held for D M C C use to align with a new site plan and to close Fourth and Fifth avenues S E from Second Street S E and related segments. A by law would be required and the matter was referred to town solicitors.

Grant Backs Extracurriculars at Dauphin Collegiate

The Dauphin area school board approved a 100 grant for extracurriculars at the Dauphin collegiate. Principal H C Ray said the funds would aid the camera club orchestra and sports teams, with new music and equipment like 15 stools and rugby sweaters among needs.

Dauphin Firemen Demonstrate New Fire Truck Capabilities

Dauphin volunteers received instruction on the Bickle Seagrave unit valued at $10,000. Under Jack Binns supervision they tested water delivery from a 210 to 420 gpm range and practiced priming and starting procedures for the centrifugal pump system. Six lines tested across the river showcased the truck’s fire fighting capacity as council members observed.
