Committee Hosts Evening Recital For Band Beginners

Fatal contact with 4600 volt transformer claims life of Robertson

C R Robertson was killed instantly while hanging a fuse on a 4600 volt transformer. He was born October 13 1909 in Basswood Manitoba and later moved to Dauphin in 1932. He married Dorothy Hall of Dauphin and is survived by two children a mother two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held at the Dauphin United Church with Rev L A Muttitt officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery with six pallbearers. Bullmore's Funeral Home handled arrangements.

J Heesaker Named CCF Candidate at Ste. Rose

At a Sept 20 nominating convention in Ste. Rose du Lac Jake Heesaker was unanimously chosen as CCF candidate for Ste. Rose provincial constituency. Heesaker, a Million district farmer, has lived in the municipality 30 years and is active in political and civic life. Rev Philip Peterson of Winnipeg spoke. Victor Harper of McCreary chaired.

Five Kindret brothers serve country during war

Army and air force service completed by five sons of Mr. and Mrs. M. Kindret. RCAS.C. notes one soldier disabled on maneuvers in overseas duty and return to Canada in 1944. Pte Mike Kindret served with a tank transport company in England and on the Western front. FO. Andrew Kindret flew with the Moose squadron in England. his Lancaster was shot down over Germany and he was a POW until May 6, 1945.

Five Hundred Raised for Dauphin Memorial Centre

Five hundred dollars raised by twenty local women through the Wide Awake group will go toward building and furnishing the memorial centre in Dauphin. The group, known for wartime sewing and nutrition courses, transitioned to war relief and shipped comforts to Dauphin soldiers overseas, sending fifty dollars monthly in cigarettes the past year. Mrs W Coppelle serves as president.

Tag Day Saturday To Aid Blind Institute

The local advisory committee of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind will sponsor a tag day in Dauphin on Saturday September 29 to raise funds for the institute. The institute has operated since 1918 and serves 34 blind people in the district with a $1300 shortfall after government grants. donations will support services and ease the burden on those affected.

MacArthur Orders Japanese Weapons Scrap for Civilian Relief

General MacArthur on Wednesday ordered nearly all Japanese weapons to be scrapped for civilian relief. He also directed the Japanese government to transfer army and navy food clothing and supplies to the home ministry with strict accounting to headquarters.
