The council reviews a strong town financial position yet notes a dip in tax collections. Treasurer J W Johnston reports arrears of 17824.15 before 1923 and outlines 1923 business tax 12694.50. frontage tax 17879.22 with 131, right now 13768.03 collected and 4111.19 outstanding.
A telephone message from Fork River reports five and a half year old Boyko was killed by a shot from a revolver on Tuesday near an outdoor accident site. Witness Weterot stated the event details.
Monday night social hosted by the Tennis Club featured a shadow graph sketch with Dr. Woodward Nurse Hall and Miss Blanch Arkison, plus a bridal rescue scene. An evening of contests, supper, and a community sing fostered friendly introductions and a warm Dauphin welcome.
The Annual Convention of the Manitoba Hospital Association met in Brandon on the 18th to 20th of the month. Delegates heard talks from Dr. D. A. Stewart Ninette Sanatorium and MP Robert Forke. sessions ran from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. with focus on nursing, hospital housekeeping and mental disease care. The Brandon General Hospital was praised as a top Canadian unit and 800 inmates at the mental hospital were toured. Com H L Bowyer returned to town after a Winnipeg trip.
Council authorized paying 40000 of the 56833.32 school levy to the School Board to cover teachers’ access costs and discussed consolidating bank accounts for better oversight. By law approved purchasing rink lots 1–5 in block 8 plan 243 for 1800 to Northern Lumber Co. and 1200 for tax arrears clearance to United Assets Ltd. Children's Aid Society seeks a 100 grant increase to cover 22 children this winter as fund-raising falls short.
The Ford Caravan which was to appear in Dauphin on October 4 is now postponed to October 5 due to rain and may be delayed further if wet conditions persist.
A horseshoe and iron chunk were found hidden in sheaves and fed into Parker and Waite’s threshing outfit at Harry Parker’s farm on Valley River. Barley was being threshed, limiting damage. Police investigation underway to locate and bring culprits to justice.
Telegram from Saskatoon reports Henry Crowder crushed between two railroad cars and killed in the yard. He was 40, a former resident of this town and brother of Frank Crowder.

Wilfred Mack, part of Jack McDonald's crew, was threshing near the village when two adult bears and cubs appeared. He climbed a poplar tree about six inches through and 29 feet high to escape. The bears remained for hours until a relief party arrived, after which Mack leapt down and sustained severe injuries from the fall.
The Manitoba Liquor Control Commission released a temporary price list showing liquor prices 50 to 75 cents above prevailing British Columbia and Quebec levels due to extra freight charges. The cheapest whiskey is a 26 oz bottle at 4.25 dollars.

Winnipegosis September 26. Magistrate T H Whale presided over Manitoba Temperance Act infractions from the 25th. Joseph Campbell and Jno Sass along with Alex Bickle faced fines. Campbell and Maure were fined fifty dollars and costs for drinking outside private dwellings, while Sass and Bickle were fined two hundred dollars and costs for more serious charges. Local notes report a busy week with a guild bazaar raising 110 dollars, plus travels of residents and school-related updates.

Harvest Thanksgiving services were held at the Methodist Church last Sunday with well attended morning and evening services. Mrs Barker Mrs Rogers and Fred Caldwell led solo parts as the choir provided special music. Mr Neville spoke on Consider the Lilies and God s Message for To day drawing lessons on earthly uncertainty and divine care. He cited the widow of Zarephath and the virtue of generous giving with the promise of reward.
Mrs. Stanley Chute escaped serious harm when the horse she was driving on Main Street ran away. The buggy collided with a car and overturned, throwing her under the vehicle as wheels passed over her. She suffered only minor injuries.
Mrs Paraska Sawicki and her 12 year old son Peter appear before M Hawkins at Pipe River on Friday 28th inst to answer jointly for causing the death of Mrs Anna Kunka on September 1. Crown Prosecutor C A Rogers, Dr Trimble, Inspector Cunningham and provincial constables will attend.
Barred Rocks belonging to W. R. Barker of Deloraine lead the Manitoba egg laying contest with 1,844 eggs for 46 weeks. Wm. Blair of Ochre River, second with 1,841 eggs, also raises Barred Rock stock.
Mrs. Mary Ann Cochrane died in Cadillac Sask on September 19 at age 78. Survived by sons Arnett Cochrane and R. N. Cochrane of Dauphin. Funeral held Sunday from A Cochrane’s residence Fifth Ave NE to Riverside cemetery conducted by Rev. P. Duncan.
John Baillie of Winniper weds Kathleen Taylor of Dauphin at St Paul’s Church in Dauphin on September 25. Rev H P Barrett officiates the ceremony.
