New Council Formed and Committees Reorganized

Regular council session reports new members Brewer Bennett Lepper and King taking seats. Mayor Robson vows smooth work as committees are restructured after Ward 2 vacancy and a proposed C N B electric conduit contract discussed for Dauphin region. The town plans to pay for sidewalk work on 3rd Ave SE and awaits Ward 2 appointment per municipal act.

Dauphin Board of Trade Holds General Meeting

The Dauphin Board of Trade will meet at the town hall on Wednesday at 8 o'clock. The chairman of each committee will report on current work and present recommendations for the balance of the year. All members are urged to attend.

Ukrainian man killed near Dauphin on eastbound train

Shortly after 1 am on Tuesday Samuel Semcheson aged unknown was killed on the track about three and a half miles north of Dauphin when No 16 passenger train bound east ran over him. Engineer Cipde reported a man stood on the track and made no effort to move. Semcheson, Ukrainian by birth, left a wife and three young children plus several sons and daughters from a former marriage.

Day of Field Day yields strong results at local school

Miss Laura Robson Leaves for Flin Flon to Teach

Miss Laura M. Robson daughter of Mayor W. E. Robson departs Monday evening to teach in Flin Flon first public school there. She leaves a district where she is well established after three years teaching to pioneer Northern Manitoba schooling and help build a major industrial community.

Dauphin Weddings and Births Reported in September

Miss Alice Elsie Dickson wed Robert Lorne Buchannon at the Manse in Dauphin with Rev A W Lochead officiating. At Dauphin General Hospital a daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Fred Abrey. A son arrived for Mr and Mrs Paul Deekowski of Deepdale. A daughter arrived for Mr and Mrs G L Birss of Dauphin at the hospital.

Dauphin Waterworks Inspects the Brinkman Shaw Lake Source

Mayor Robson and councilmen joined Supt Brinkman and others on a trip to Dauphin’s waterworks source in Riding Mountain. They examined the lower dam, reservoir, and a lake fed by Edwards Creek, noting capacity, intake, and a new sluiceway. The lake, dubbed Brinkman Shaw Edwards Lake, anchors a pivotal $475,000 project and has supplied Dauphin since 1915.

Wallace Kemp Hurt While Repairing Truck

Wallace Kemp of Dauphin rural four miles west of town was badly injured when a jack slipped while he repaired a gravel hauling truck. A bolt pierced his cheek and jaw as workers freed him. he was taken to hospital and expected to leave this week.

Fishermen Meet on Lake Dauphin Winter Catch Rules

Resident fishermen from the Lake Dauphin district meet in Dauphin with federal officials to discuss winter fishing regulations. They vote not to seek a catch limit, citing outside competition and possible depletion as large operators prepare for next season. Participants include J B Skeptason Selkirk and A J Whitmore Ottawa.

Safeway contract let for Dauphin Main Street store

Craig Bros. of Dauphin has secured the contract to build the new Safeway store at Main Street North. The project price is estimated between $14 000 and $15 000, and excavation work has begun.
