The season’s best wheat yield was set by Gavin Strang who threshed 1890 bushels from 63 acres yielding 30 bushels per acre. The crop arose on summer fallow with land carefully prepared for planting.
Weyburn Saskatchewan Alderman A G Crittenden has been arrested on perjury charges linked to evidence presented at a July judicial inquiry into alleged negligence by City Commissioner Reed in the sewerage disposal plant nuisance issue. He appeared before Magistrate James Graham with bail set at 2000 dollars each for two prominent local businessmen as security. preliminary hearing scheduled for September 27.
A buggy driven by Mrs F W Durston and Mrs Collingburne with a child ran away on Main street south Wednesday night. The dash struck a telephone pole, throwing the ladies from the vehicle. Mrs Collingburne suffered serious head injuries and dental loss, Mrs Durston had a severe shaking, and the child was uninjured.
The Herald reports the death of Lieut Willis Code during an August battle when his battalion advanced under fire. A private letter says he was killed while leading his men forward, died gallantly, and was buried by Captain Whitlam in Hillside Cemetery about 14 miles southeast of Amiens.
The Methodist Sunday school holds its annual September rally next Sunday at 2 80 p m. A programme of special interest is in course of preparation. The McMurray orchestra and the junior choir will contribute. The event aims for record attendance and urges all parents of the congregation to be present. Mr L Swartz and his staff of teachers expect a full church.
The Red Cross Society lists weekly donations including Spruce Creek area with 12 pairs of socks a suit and pajamas a dressing gown and 16 pairs of socks from Methodist Willing Workers and 4 suits and pajamas plus 9 pairs socks from Baptist Willing Workers. Mrs E B Armstrong contributed 6 pairs pajamas and 6 pairs socks.
Corporal Fletcher of the Lord Yathpons Horse, formerly Dauphin now Winnie, has been awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. He has three years and nine months of service.
The gathering scheduled for Sept 25 at J. H. Tuckers has been delayed to October 2 due to threshing operations in the district.

An outstanding social event of the week was the graduation exercises held at the hospital on Friday evening. Miss Lula Ippen Miss Bessie Speers and Miss Jean Reid received graduation diplomas after three years at the Dauphin hospital training school. The ceremony featured the Florence Nightingale pledge, diplomas by the sec treasurer Robt Hawkins, and bouquets from the Board.
Auditorium at town hall hosted a bagaar and dinner by the Presbyterian Ladies Aid. The event netted over three hundred dollars for the society’s work. Booths represented Allied nations with convener teams led by Mrs Struthers and others including Mrs J N McDonald, Mrs Evans, and Mrs Wallace among many.
Dr de Mattos rector of St Pauls Anglican church resigns and accepts a new rectorship in New York City. The resignation takes effect in October.
About 311 dollars were subscribed in town to the Columbus hut fund while Ste. Rose residents contributed a similar amount. No canvass was attempted.
