Debentures Authorized to Cover Relief Costs and Dam Expenditures

The by law authorizes a contract with Canadian General Electric Co for a turbine at the municipal powerhouse for 25075 dollars. The council discusses boiler labor, replacing skilled workers with locals, and considers debentures of 5606 and 22000 dollars to cover related expenditures.

Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Mrs J G Cathcart

Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Pauls Anglican Church for Mrs J G Cathcart born in 1860s in Ireland and who lived in Portage la Prairie Winnipeg and Dauphin. Survived by eight sons and one daughter with relatives in Dauphin Banff Waldron Fort Rouge Hoey Langruth and Winnipeg. Burial followed at Ulverside cemetery with six sons as pallbearers.

20 Bed Hospital Is Erected At Winnipegosis

Excavation for a new 26 bed hospital next to the Roman Catholic Church at Winnipegosis is underway. Initial cost is 21 000 dollars with 10000 from Archbishop Sinnott, 10000 from Indian Affairs, and 1000 from the village. The three story building will house operating and X-Ray rooms and be run by the Sisters of St Benedict. Completion expected by mid November. Contractor is W J Lally, Winnipeg.

Coldwell to Address District Teachers at Annual Convention

Mr M J Coldwell M P of Regina Saskatchewan will speak at the Dauphin District Teachers Convention. He addresses the General Session on October 15 and again at the public evening meeting the same day. The program includes a theatre party, a Friday banquet, and papers by education specialists. Teachers from Inspector Stevenson’s Division and Swan River area will attend.

Ashville Pioneer Ernest Winters Dies in Dauphin Hospital

Ernest Winters 58 a longtime Ashville district pioneer farmer died in Dauphin General Hospital after years of ill health. Born in Newington Ontario he moved west at 13 and lived in Ashville ever since. Survived by wife three sons Louis Cleve and Alan and five daughters Stella Bessie Thelma Mildred and Grace all in Ashville. Two brothers John Dauphin and George Grandview and sister Mrs C Church Dauphin. Rural Municipalities See Population Gains In Manitoba Census

Census bulletins show growing populations in rural Manitoba in 1936 with Dauphin up from 5 622 to 6 012 and several other RMs rising like Ethelbert Massey River and Ste Rose while Lawrence Ochre River decline. Winnipeg and The Pas show drops and Swan River's population rises to 116.

Stanley Kalichuk Injured in Duck Hunting Accident

Stanley Kalichuk son of Frank Kalichuk of Dauphin rural was in a boat on Lake Dauphin when he accidentally discharged a gun injuring his right forearm and wrist. He is in hospital under Dr Potoski care with a possibility of permanent disability but no immediate amputation.

Farmers Go To Jail For Shooting Deer In Off Season

Glen Campbell and John Gordon of Gilbert Plains district were sentenced to two months in gaol and fined 75 dollars each after police found elk carcass with their horses and rifles. The court confiscated two horses two guns and the deer for National Parks.

Dauphin Collegiate Set for Annual Track and Field Meet

Dauphin Collegiate will hold its annual track and field meet at the Fair Grounds this Friday weather permitting. The day features morning sprints distance events broad jump high jump hop step and jump pole vault shot put and baseball throw followed by afternoon class competitions in softball and basketball and a 730 p.m. Stunt Night. The event aims to showcase local athletes ahead of provincial meet play with Dauphin hoping to reclaim the silver cups from Yorkton and Melville.

Ochre River official jailed for misappropriation

Vilhelm Storgaard former secretary treasurer of the rural municipality of Ochre River pleaded guilty to misappropriation of 1600 dollars and was sentenced to two years by His Honor Judge A L Bonnycastle. He was arrested June 18 and held in Dauphin jail. C A Rogers K C prosecuted.
